Panel brand matters less than five numbers on the datasheet. Learn to read those and you can evaluate any proposal put in front of you.

The five numbers that matter

Ask for the datasheet, not the brochure.

  • Rated power in watts (400-450W is typical)
  • Module efficiency (20%-23% for current monocrystalline)
  • Temperature coefficient (closer to zero performs better in Texas heat)
  • Annual degradation rate (0.25%-0.55% per year)
  • Warranty: product term, production term, and who backs it

Hail and Texas roofs

North and Central Texas sit in a serious hail corridor. Look for modules tested to withstand 25mm hail at 23 m/s at minimum, and confirm with your homeowners insurer how a rooftop array affects your policy and deductible before installation.

More watts is not always better

A higher-wattage panel with a worse temperature coefficient can underproduce a lower-rated module across a Texas summer. Compare modeled annual kWh, not nameplate watts.
