Texas rebates come from municipal utilities and co-ops, not the state. Here is where the programs are and how to apply before budgets run out.
Texas has no statewide rebate. Direct cash incentives come from municipally owned utilities and electric cooperatives, each with its own annual budget, per-watt amount, and application window.
Where the programs are
Programs change every budget year. Confirm current terms with the utility before signing a contract that assumes a rebate.
- Austin Energy: residential rebate plus Value of Solar credit on the bill
- CPS Energy (San Antonio): per-watt rebate with a local-installer bonus
- Denton Municipal Electric: residential renewable program
- Garland Power & Light: distributed generation incentives
- Select electric cooperatives statewide: rebates and low-rate financing
Applying without losing the money
Most programs require pre-approval before installation begins. Installing first and applying later is the most common way Texas homeowners forfeit a rebate.
Budgets are annual and frequently exhausted before the fiscal year ends, so applications submitted in the fall often land in the following year's queue.
