Utility Solar Rebates in Texas
A utility-by-utility look at Texas solar rebates, buyback credits, and interconnection requirements for residential rooftop systems.
Your utility determines three things: how fast you get interconnected, what you are paid for exported power, and whether a rebate is available at all. This page summarizes the major Texas territories.
Deregulated delivery utilities
Oncor, CenterPoint Energy, AEP Texas, and TNMP deliver power and own the meter, but they do not sell you electricity. They handle interconnection; your retail electric provider handles billing and buyback.
Municipal utilities
Austin Energy, CPS Energy, Denton Municipal Electric, Garland Power & Light, and Lubbock Power & Light both deliver and sell power. That vertical structure is why they can offer rebates and structured buyback credits.
What to confirm before you sign
Ask your installer to put the answers in the proposal.
- Interconnection application fee and expected timeline
- Whether a rebate is pre-approval only
- Export credit rate and how it appears on the bill
- System size caps relative to historical usage
- Required equipment certifications (UL 1741-SA and similar)
