Solar Maintenance
Cleaning, monitoring, hail damage, insurance, and the real ongoing costs of owning solar in Texas.
Solar is low maintenance, not no maintenance. Three things deserve attention: production monitoring, panel cleanliness, and insurance coverage.
Monitor production monthly
Compare actual output against the modeled estimate. A sustained 15% shortfall usually points to a failed microinverter, a tripped breaker, or soiling, and catching it early is the difference between a warranty claim and a lost year of production.
Cleaning in Texas conditions
Rain handles most of it in East Texas. In dusty West Texas markets like Midland and Lubbock, a rinse two or three times a year can recover several percent of output. Never walk on modules.
Hail, insurance, and claims
Confirm with your homeowners insurer that the array is covered under your dwelling policy and ask how it affects your wind and hail deductible. Photograph the installation at commissioning so you have a documented baseline.
